Click to enlarge About our CL Little Balsier is a traditional farmhouse and courtyard with four and a half acres of land, part of which was converted to a CL in 2002. The access road was improved, the entrance widened, the pitches levelled, water and electrics installed and imagination applied to making the site as practical and pleasant as possible for our visitors. As caravanners ourselves, we were aware of some of the inconveniences sometimes encountered, so we have tried to make all the necessary filling and emptying as easy and splash free as possible, we pick up the grass mowings to keep them off your carpet, and the site itself, whilst not extensive (half an acre all told) has a sympathetic layout allowing you to face in any direction you choose with part of the area left unmown for flora and fauna to flourish. Our views are to the Galloway Hills to the north east and to undulating agricultural countryside in every other direction. We have one of the lowest rainfalls in the country, sheltering from Atlantic weather fronts in the lee of Ireland; not to say it never rains, of course, but the chances of sunshine here are better than average. We have almost no midges! This year (2005) we have installed a spacious shower room with toilet and wash-hand basin in the old dairy, with solar warmed under-floor heating. This has proved to be very popular indeed! We don’t provide you with a washing machine but there is a rotary washing line tucked away in the corner of the CL. If drawing or painting is your hobby, we have a huge studio in the byre which you are welcome to use for a small contribution towards maintenance and, if you like home made bread or fresh garden vegetables in season, we sometimes have some spare. Wild brown trout (and slightly less wild rainbow trout) fishing can be organised in two private lochs in beautiful locations 14 miles away for £15 per day. The site is open from March to October inclusive, and in winter by arrangement. “We” are Gordon and Gabrielle Harrington (retired) and look forward to making you welcome.
